Every once in awhile we get the great opportunity of listening to two or more very different genres of singers coming together to create good music. When that happens, some get excited and others go ‘oh who would have thought?'.
Intending to capture those exact emotions, we found the 11 recent artist collaborations which were downright weird and in no particular order, here they are!

1. Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli (2017)

‘Perfect’ was from Ed Sheeran’s third studio album, ÷ in 2017. In December of the same year, the song reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Sheeran then released a second version of the song, a duet with RNB queen, Beyonce, and then another one with the infamous Andrea Bocelli. Despite the second version of the song already being a duet, boy was it weird when Sheeran paired up with Bocelli!

2. Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Kanye West (2016)

A trio like no other, the song ‘FourFiveSeconds’ peaked number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, when it was released. It was also performed on the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. I mean it seemed pretty understandable when it was just Rihanna and Kanye, but when Paul McCartney was also featured, it was safe to say we were all thinking, what a peculiar collaboration!

3. Madonna and Maluma (2019)

We never thought we would see the Queen of Pop do another Latin pop number, but I guess we were wrong. The 'Medellin' lead single on her fourteenth album ‘Madame X’ in 2019, the song contained both elements of Reggaeton and dance pop. An intriguing listen, the song had critics giving Madonna great reviews, as compared to the few of her previous songs.

4. Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus (2019)

Yeah, a country singer and an American rapper came together and for a minute there we weren’t sure if up was still up and down was still down! 'Old Town Road' was first released independently by Lil Nas X. But then, the rapper decided to do a remix with ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer, Billy Ray Cyrus, which then went on to be known as a ‘country-pop’ hit.

5. BTS and Halsey (2019)

Another two singers from completely different worlds, ‘Boy With Luv’ was released in April last year. At the time, the song’s music video was the most viewed online music video in 24 hours, garnering over 74.6 million views in just the first day. Despite the weird combo, people’s separate love for both BTS and Halsey had brought them all together in one great hit!

6. Andrea Bocelli and Dua Lipa (2018)

Surprising us again a year after his collab with Ed Sheeran, Bocelli took another leap with pop singer Dua Lipa in their song ‘If Only’. The song was on Bocelli’s album 'Si', which he released after 14 years. On said album, he collaborated with various different artists, like Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Josh Groban, etc. giving us so much flavour!

7. Bryan Adams and Jennifer Lopez (2019)

Featured on Bryan Adams fourteenth studio album ‘Shine a Light’, his rock song ‘That’s How Strong Our Love Is’ with Jennifer Lopez was something we definitely did not expect last year, when it was released. The song was a follow-up to the album’s title track‘Shine a Light’ and the album was also said to have been co-written with pop singer Ed Sheeran.

8. Young Thug and Elton John (2018)

A beyond weird pairing, Elton John first expressed his love for Thug in the 2015. Then a few years after that, ‘High’ featuring both the singers came to exist. The song became one of the top rap songs to listen to in 2018, because despite the un-ordinary duo, the music was simply heart-swelling!

9. Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey (2019)

Lead single from the soundtrack to the latest rendition of Charlie’s Angels, these three powerhouses came together for their song ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’. Growing into three very different kind of singers, it was certainly a genre crossover that took us by surprise, when we heard the announcement of these three working on some music together!

10. Ed Sheeran, Eminem and 50 Cent (2019)

As much as a surprise as this was, we were even more thrilled when Ed Sheeran announced all the collaborations he would be doing on his sixth album ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’, last year. Working with so many different artists, it was very entertaining to see how different singers could come together to make some great tunes, including this one ‘Remember The Name’!

11. Juice WRLD and Ellie Goulding (2019)

The light that is Ellie Goulding decided to do the unexpected when she took a much darker approach with Juice WRLD, on their song ‘Hate Me’. The surprising collaboration tracked popularity on the social app Tik Tok, and managed to peak to number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100!
