NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts has quite the unique backstory. They have been amplifying unique concert experiences for music fans since 2008 and it all started with Boilen and Stephen Thompson, the NPR Music Editor who had left a bar in frustration due to not being able to hear the music over the raucous crowd. During the exchange, Thompson had clearly made a joke suggesting that musicians should just perform at Boilen’s desk and a month later that’s exactly what the pair had orchestrated - an impromptu recording of musical artists and posted it online.

Little did they know, it would take off the way that it has, with NPR Tiny Desks YouTube channel now boasting over 800 concerts viewed a collective 2 billion time as of August 2018.
