From the Billboard Hot 100 to Netflix, it certainly looks like Blackpink has all their ducks in one hella’ row!
Creamy goodness, a variety of color and a cute beat, the group recently reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 (they highest they have ever been), with their new song ‘Ice Cream’.
The song, which was a collaboration with pop singer Selena Gomez, was released on the 28th of August, and managed to climb charts with its catch-flirtatious tune. It attained 18.3 million U.S. streams and 23,000 downloads in just its first week.
Their climb on the Billboard Hot 100 begin in 2018, when their infamous song ‘Ddu-du Ddu-du’ from their EP ‘Square Up’ touched number 55 on the chart. At the time, it made them the highest charting Korean girl group, and the music video for the song also became the most viewed MV in the first 24 hours by a Korean girl group.
In the same year, the group released their collaboration hit with Dua Lipa, called ‘Kiss and Make Up’, which peaked at number 93.
The following year, 2019, they released another song called ‘Kill This Love’. The song had listeners addicted, bringing them up to number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. They also became the first female K-Pop group, to be invited to perform at the 2019 Coachella Music Festival.
They continued to impress in 2020 by doing another collab, this time with Lady Gaga called ‘Sour Candy’. This peaked at number 33 on the charts. Also reaching number 33 was their single before ‘Ice Cream’ called ‘How You Like That’, which even won them a VMA at the 2020 MTV VMAs.
On top of all of that, two days ago, Netflix announced the group’s new documentary series which would be premiering October 14th.
According to Netflix, the series would cover the four years since Blackpink's explosive debut in 2016, from their days training, to a look into their home lives, behind-the-scenes stories and interviews.
